ReplyDeleteHi again! Being a huge martial arts geek I couldn't help myself and correct a few stuff that was said on the show. Btw as always great show, you're my second favorite martial arts podcast (sorry, Hiyaa is still on the top for me :p ). Well you're one of the two martial arts podcasts I like, the other ones I've listened to were not as cool.
ReplyDeleteWell , to the nerdy stuff.
1) Wong Fei Hung, he did practice Hung Gar, learned it from his father Wong Kei Ying, but they weren't from the Hung family (I'm not sure if there are descendants if the style founder). The hung in Wong Fei hung is not the same as in hung gar.
2) Bodidharma is traditionally credited with teaching the shaolin monks a style of qigong. And from that they developed their Kung fu. Historically I think there's no proof of that, also there were Chinese fighting styles before Shaolin and not all Kung fu is derived from shaolin.
3) Taichi chuan is the full name of what's commonly known as Taichi. It roughly translates to Taichi fist, Taichi being a. Daoist concept (chuan being fist). The most commonly practiced is yang style, and it's mostly practiced for its health benefits but all branches of Taichichuan are fighting systems.
Again sorry to be so bothersome. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the "nerdy" corrections, we'll talk about them next Episode.
